University of St Andrews History

Founded in the fifteenth century, St Andrews is Scotland's first university. Teaching began in 1410 and the University was formally constituted by the issue of a papal bull in 1413.

With over 600 years of academic excellence, St Andrews has established itself as a world leader in academia attracting international scholars the world over. Some of the great minds to study at the university include Rudyard Kipling (1759) and Benjamin Franklin (1922). 

Other notable alumni are HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
