The University of Nottingham History

Nottingham's first civic college was opened in 1881. It was awarded its Royal Charter in 1948, becoming the University of Nottingham.

Alumni of the University have some incredible achievements amongst them; including Sir Peter Mansfield’s ground-breaking work on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for which he received the Nobel prize in Medicine.  As well as Sir Clive Granger’s Nobel Prize win in 2003 for Economic Science.

Other prominent graduates comprise of Lord Hollick, former CEO of United News and Media, and Jim Moir - Head of BBC Radio 2.
